I'm really looking forward to seeing how quickly they can implement features. Fly-in alpine base-camping, day hikes and. but it was miles further along than Affinity Publisher is. Back in the 1930s, UPS (which turned 100 in August) used electric. Of course, it's a beta for a 1.0 release. It's missing a LOT of important/powerful features, too. Like I said, there are a ton of cool little features in it, but for those who use InDesign day-in and day-out, it just isn't there yet. You have to hit the T key twice to draw out a text frame.ĭeselecting a text frame requires you to click outside the text frame before you can switch tools instead of just command clicking it like you can in InDesign. hitting the T key actually activates the art text tool, not the text frame tool. I Spent 20 minutes or so trying to find a way to adjust the inset of a text frame and never did find a way. Way too many clicks/mousing to do simple things such as what you have to go through to simply make a text frame background a color. It's got a lot of really nice little features, (like being able to adjust the width of column guides individually) but overall it's more of a "Apple Pages Killer" than an "InDesign Killer." Give Scribus a try and best of luck to you.If you're a professional who uses InDesign all day, you're going to be sorely disappointed in Publisher. Now I want an ipad pro (though it's not a must have), if I end up getting one, I will likely buy the affinity suite if it goes on sale again. A few of the experienced painters in the class have ipad pro's with procreate and it's very helpful with the grid lines (which affinity photo also does) for setting up proportions on composition sketches on the canvas. I have taken up oil painting and it's super satisfying, there's an irony though. I just decided to quit doing freelance, it was onlyt small amounts as, I'm a retired graphic designer. If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. I downloaded Scibus for page layout, it's free, adequate. Each of the three apps for Mac Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2, and Affinity Publisher 2 are on sale separately for 40.99, rising to 69.99 later. The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Publisher > About). I have heard they are looking at InDesign and Affinity Publisher for UI ideas so, hopefully, future versions will be easier to use. Maybe they have improved with the development version, but I'm waiting for the next stable release. That said, some of the procedures to get things done are cumbersome. I'm used to InDesign, so there was a learning curve in using Scribus but, even with that, on the first day I tried it, I was able to complete a project. I haven't tested the development version. I've only used Scribus 1.4.8 (the current stable version). They also offer cross-grades from InDesign or QuarkXPress. They have a demo version as well as a free version. VivaDesigner 10 will run on Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) and higher. QuarkXPress doesn't currently require a subscription, but it does require checking in every five days to verify your license. Some software companies openly make previous versions available while others like DxO ask the customer to make a specific request to their DxO Support Team. While I do recommend the rather good Serif Affinity products over Abobe's perma-rental extortionware, I think it is unfortunate that they cannot supply the previous editions of their software where there are difficult and specific circumstances such as yours. I have tried out VivaDesigner and I think it is competent software and I've seen excellent work done with QuarkXPpress. You could see if any of VivaDesigner, QuarkXPpress or the free and open source Scribus meet you needs and all good luck there. I have three suggestions if I may, please. Is there any way to receive a license for Publisher v1? I have contacted support and posted to Twitter, and have been told in both cases this is not possible. I have purchased a v2 license as an investment, but I really would just like to activate a copy of Publisher v1. I am unable to run macOS Catalina on my computer, and so am unable to use v2. I own Affinity Designer and Photo v1 and would like to purchase a copy of Publisher v1.
